I've found that more often than not the bands I listen to tend to come out with some interesting stuff when they stick to the 9-15 track album. Granted, the songs might vary in quality, but it allows the band to explore and conceptualize their songs a bit more than if they were just trying to get a single into the mainstream. More often than not, I find that I tend to like some of these "less-than" tracks to be more interesting than the main single anyway.

But that's my music snootery, which you can take or leave, of course. :P

I'm gonna put this out there... Singles, back in the day, were the only things released with one or two B-Sides. I always thought that the pressure to release 9-15 made most artists crank out some pretty iffy stuff just to fill a quota, and after albums began doing so poorly I wondered why artists didn't go back to releasing singles... So in that sense, I am glad that it is happening. However, whiny excuse - not so much a fan.
